Podcast Movement, a new Amplifi-produced podcast, and call me professor.

Innovation and change are always in the air here at Amplifi Media. As every conversation sparks new ideas, I wanted to share some updates with you.

Podcast Movement is this week. We have three great sessions planned at PodMov23 I want you to know about:

NEW PODCAST INSIGHTS

A View From the Top
For the past seven Podcast Movement conferences, we have gathered podcast leaders to talk about the state of the business. Is the industry contracting or growing, or both? Depends on who you talk to. YouTube has exploded on the scene. Companies are unwinding huge contractual deals, and re-orgs are occurring all over. While all these things are happening, listenership is growing. This year our panel is a murderer’s row of visionary leaders: Jessica Cordova Kramer (CEO, Lemonada), Eric Nuzum (Co-founder,  Magnificent Noise), Tamara Zubatiy (CEO, Barometer), and Paul Anderson (CEO, Workhouse Media) will take the stage to talk about what’s been happening and what’s next. It's a must-see panel. No one leaves the room without actionable ideas and takeaways. Join us at 9:45am on Tuesday – Industry Stage.

AI and Generative Storytelling: Shaping the Future of Podcast Content and Delivery
Yes, it is an AI panel, but it’s not about how to use ChatGPT. We will focus on the power of AI for content selection, storytelling, production, and accessibility. We will hit on ethics and how to balance ethical considerations with innovation and the smart use of new technology. We have tips and strategies for the right tools to use. I will be on this panel along with Will Mayo (Founder, CSO of Spoken Layer), James Boggs (CEO, Spooler), and Tamara Zubatiy(CEO, Barometer). It’s at 1:45pm on Wednesday – Industry Stage.

Thursday Keynote: The New Rules of Podcasting on YouTube – Latest Research
While podcasts began as audio only, more and more, video is part of the mix. Today, 75% of consumers define a podcast as audio or video. That’s part of the rapid ascension of YouTube and YouTube Music as a podcast destination. YouTube is a different monster than other podcast platforms – from monetization difficulties to warming up the algorithms to have your show found and discovered among so much video content. We partnered with Coleman Insights, a top research firm, to dig into podcasting and YouTube. You’ll find out that nearly two-thirds of people use more than one app for podcast consumption, the core audience for YouTube may not be what you think – and how people search for podcasts is also different. Thursday morning at 8:30am – Aurora.

A NEW PODCAST

Did Alexander Graham Bell invent the phone?
Who was sitting next to Abe Lincoln (besides Mary) the night he was shot?

We proudly serve as executive producers of a new podcast, The Backstory with Patty Steele. The Backstory is produced in association with iHeartPodcasts, Premiere Networks and Patty Steele. Patty is a well-known New York Radio personality and keys on the stories you didn’t know you needed to know. It’s a short-form podcast – episodes run about 6 minutes (you’re welcome) and publishes twice weekly.

A NEW PODCAST COURSE

I’m leading NYU’s new business course on podcasting. In just a few weeks, I will have to change up my wardrobe and get a tweed jacket as “The Business of Podcasting” course sets sail at NYU. There are plenty of “how to” courses about podcasting, but this is the first at a major university focusing on the growing and changing podcast industry. There is so much to cover, from metrics to marketing, selling, evaluating content, creating, the tech stack, and more. We will also have some fabulous guest speakers from major podcast companies.  Planning the course has been fun, and we are " sold out” for the fall session. We have students from the Steinhart, Stern and Tisch schools at NYU. Special thanks to Larry Miller at NYU Steinhardt for having the vision and faith.
